Jaylen Brown (knee) still evaluating options
Sun, May 25, 2025, 10:09 AM
Celtics Blog
Jaylen Brown (knee) said Saturday that he's still deciding whether or not to undergo surgery on his right knee.
Analysis: While in Boston for the release of his signature sneaker, Brown said that he still has not decided on surgery to repair the partially torn meniscus in his right knee. “l got a lot of doctors I gotta get evaluated with ??" see the potential for surgery versus no surgery, wait to speak to the [Celtics] organization,” Brown said, according to Celtics Blog. “For now, it's just rest and recovery. I'm taking a step back from a long season. Mentally, it was a lot of stuff going on.” With Jayson Tatum (Achilles) expected to miss a significant portion of the 2025-26 season, a healthy Brown would be Boston's first scoring option if management keeps the roster intact.

Shelburne: Jaylen Brown has partial meniscus tear

Ramona Shelburne
According to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, Jaylen Brown finished the season with a partially torn right meniscus.
Analysis: This isn't exactly a revelation to those who closely followed Brown throughout the season. It was obvious the 28-year-old small forward was playing through some knee pain for the last month of the regular season and playoffs. The Celtics star had received multiple injections in his knee to deal with the pain. Brown will be evaluated in the coming week to determine if surgery is needed. Depending on the course of action on Brown's knee, the Celtics could be down another star with Jayson Tatum already having had surgery to repair a torn Achilles.
Jrue Holiday
Jrue Holiday scores four points in blowout loss
Fri, May 16, 2025, 5:27 PM
Jrue Holiday finished Friday's Game 6 loss to the Knicks with four points (1-of-8 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), four rebounds, three assists and one steal in 30 minutes.
Analysis: Between the hamstring injury that sidelined him for the final three games of the first round and his inconsistent production when available, this was a disappointing postseason for Holiday. Friday's performance was his worst, with the veteran guard shooting 12.5 percent from the field. Unfortunately, Holiday's 2024-25 season was underwhelming regarding fantasy value, as he finished outside the top-100 for the first time since his rookie season (2009-10). Holiday's fantasy prospects next season will be impacted by Jayson Tatum (Achilles) likely missing a significant amount of time, but that may also mean an expanded role for Payton Pritchard. Pritchard finished Friday's loss with 11 points, two rebounds, four assists and one three-pointer in 28 minutes.
Derrick White
Derrick White limited to eight points in loss
Fri, May 16, 2025, 5:23 PM
Derrick White amassed eight points (3-of-11 FGs), one rebound, two assists, one steal and two three-pointers in 30 minutes in Friday's Game 6 loss to the Knicks.
Analysis: After going off for 34 points in a valiant Game 5 performance on Wednesday, White could not find his groove on Friday. He shot 2-of-8 from beyond the arc and provided limited value as a playmaker in Boston's season finale. After a surprisingly elite fantasy season in the Celtics' run to the championship last season, White was a top-50 player in 2024-25. That aligned with his Yahoo! ADP (48), which may be a bit higher next season due to Jayson Tatum's ruptured Achilles tendon.
Kristaps Porzingis
Kristaps Porzingis (illness) limited to 11 minutes
Fri, May 16, 2025, 5:18 PM
Michael Scotto
Kristaps Porzingis (illness) tallied four points (1-of-4 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), five rebounds, one block and one three-pointer in 11 minutes in Friday's Game 6 loss to the Knicks.
Analysis: After being unable to play during the second half of Game 5 due to having trouble breathing, Porzingis was used in a reserve role in Game 6. The Celtics forward/center could not provide much value in that role, and replacement Luke Kornet (5/5/1/0/1 in 21 minutes) also struggled on Friday. Most important for Porzingis this offseason is to address the illness that impacted him throughout the postseason. A healthy Porzingis can be an excellent fantasy asset, especially with Jayson Tatum (Achilles) likely missing most of the 2025-26 season.
Al Horford
Al Horford scores 10 points in season finale
Fri, May 16, 2025, 5:16 PM
Al Horford shot 4-of-7 from the field in Friday's Game 6 loss to the Knicks, scoring 10 points with two rebounds and two three-pointers in 27 minutes.
Analysis: While Horford shot the ball reasonably well in Game 6, the veteran center's impact was muted as Boston lost by 38 points. Horford reached double figures in three of the series' final four games, providing increased value with Kristaps Porzingis battling an unspecified illness. However, it wasn't enough to give Boston a shot at winning the series, especially after losing Jayson Tatum to a ruptured Achilles tendon. Horford, who failed to crack the top-100 in fantasy value, will be a free agent this summer. How the front office views the roster after Tatum's injury will be one of the major offseason storylines in the NBA.
Jaylen Brown
Jaylen Brown fouls out of Game 6 blowout defeat
Fri, May 16, 2025, 5:05 PM
Jaylen Brown finished Friday's Game 6 loss to the Knicks with 20 points (8-of-20 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), six rebounds, six assists, one steal, one block and three three-pointers in 32 minutes.
Analysis: As good as Brown was in Game 5, he could not drum up a similar performance in Friday's series finale. He committed seven turnovers, and with Jayson Tatum (Achilles) out, the Celtics could not afford to sit Brown despite his foul trouble. As a result, he was disqualified with about three minutes remaining in the third quarter. From a fantasy standpoint, Brown's 2024-25 production did not align with his Yahoo! ADP (40), as he was only a top-75 player in eight-cat formats. Depending on what the Celtics' front office does this offseason, with Tatum likely to miss most of the 2025-26 season, Brown's ADP will likely be inflated next fall.
Luke Kornet
BOS starting Jrue, White, Brown, Horford, Kornet
Fri, May 16, 2025, 1:46 PM
Boston Celtics
Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Al Horford and Luke Kornet will start Game 6 on Friday against the Knicks.
Analysis: Kornet will start Game 6 after being one of the difference-makers in Boston's Game 5 blowout victory on Wednesday. He replaces Kristaps Porzingis, who continues to struggle with his fitness after dealing with an illness that first became an issue late in the regular season. How much Porzingis can play is unknown, but the Celtics will need another Herculean effort from Kornet to extend the series to a decisive Game 7 on Monday.
Jaylen Brown
Jaylen Brown tallies 26/8/12 line in Game 5 win
Wed, May 14, 2025, 4:01 PM
Jaylen Brown turned in a strong line on Wednesday with 26 points (9-of-17 FGs, 5-of-8 FTs), eight rebounds, 12 assists, one steal and three three-pointers in Game 5 against the Knicks.
Analysis: Brown is the other All-NBA player on the roster, and with Jayson Tatum (Achilles) done for the season, Boston needed to turn to Brown. He took advantage and was fantastic as both a scorer and a facilitator. Tatum had been Boston's leader in assists in both the regular season and the playoffs, which is an underrated aspect of his game that the Celtics will miss. If Brown continues to dominate on offense like he did in this game Boston, will have a legitimate chance to win this series, even without Tatum.
Luke Kornet
Luke Kornet starts second half, swats seven shots

Noa Dalzell
Luke Kornet started the second half on Wednesday and contributed 10 points (5-of-5 FGs), nine rebounds, one assist, one steal and seven blocks in Game 5 against the Knicks.
Analysis: Kristaps Porzingis got the starting nod in place of Jayson Tatum (Achilles), but Kornet replaced him to start the second half. Porzingis didn't end up seeing the floor after the break, while Kornet played a significant role in helping Boston take over the game. Porzingis has struggled mightily during this series, and there were reports that he is having stamina issues. After the game, head coach Joe Mazzulla was asked about benching Porzingis and said, “He couldn't breathe. He was available if absolutely necessary.” Porzingis only had one point, one rebound and one block in 12 minutes on Wednesday. It's unclear if Kornet will start in Game 6 on Friday, but he has clearly at least earned more playing time.
Derrick White
Derrick White drops 34, Celtics take Game 5
Wed, May 14, 2025, 3:50 PM
Derrick White led the Celtics with 34 points (9-of-16 FGs, 9-of-11 FTs), three rebounds, two assists, three blocks and seven three-pointers in a 127-102 win over the Knicks in Game 5 on Wednesday.
Analysis: In the wake of Jayson Tatum's Achilles tear, Boston needed someone to step up on the offensive end. White filled the void with his highest-scoring performance of the postseason and his most points in a game since early March. White struggled in the first two games of this series but has made at least 50 percent of his shots in each of his last three games. He has been able to fill whatever role the Celtics have needed him to fill since he was traded to Boston, and he should continue to be a primary scoring option for them as they head to New York for Game 6.
Kristaps Porzingis
BOS starting White, Holiday, Brown, Horford, KP
Wed, May 14, 2025, 1:02 PM
Brian Robb
Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, Jaylen Brown, Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis will start against the Knicks in Game 5 on Wednesday.
Analysis: In Boston's first game without Jayson Tatum (Achilles), Porzingis will make a return to the starting unit in a bigger lineup for the Celtics. Payton Pritchard, Sam Hauser and Luke Kornet should fill out the reserve minutes.
Sam Hauser
Sam Hauser (ankle) available for Game 5 vs. NYK

Jay King
Sam Hauser (ankle) is available to play against the Knicks in Game 5 on Wednesday.
Analysis: Hauser missed Games 2-4 after injuring his ankle in Game 1 of this series. With Jayson Tatum (Achilles) done for the year, Hauser could be relied on to play extended minutes as Boston looks to keep its season alive.
Sam Hauser
Sam Hauser (ankle) probable for Game 5 Wednesday
Tue, May 13, 2025, 11:58 AM
NBA Injury Report
Sam Hauser (ankle) is probable for Game 5 against the Knicks on Wednesday.
Analysis: Hauser has been out of the Celtics' lineup since spraining his ankle during Game 1. His likely return will give Boston another rotation player to call upon, as Jayson Tatum (Achilles) is out for the foreseeable future. With Kristaps Porzingis (illness) still not back to full strength, Hauser will play rotation minutes if cleared, potentially as a starter.
Jayson Tatum
Jayson Tatum undergoes surgery to repair Achilles
Tue, May 13, 2025, 10:49 AM
Boston Celtics
The Celtics announced Tuesday that Jayson Tatum underwent surgery to repair his ruptured right Achilles tendon.
Analysis: Tatum was injured during the fourth quarter of Monday's Game 4 loss to the Knicks, with his leg giving out as he attempted to corral a loose ball. The Celtics star could not put any weight on his leg while being helped to the locker room, and the worst fears have officially been realized. Not only will Tatum miss the remainder of this playoff series, which Boston trails 3-1, but he'll likely miss most of the 2025-26 season. One would expect Kristaps Porzingis to return to the starting lineup in the short term, and the Celtics have serious long-term questions to answer following Tatum's injury.
Derrick White
Derrick White has 23 points as Celtics drop Game 4
Mon, May 12, 2025, 4:22 PM
Derrick White had 23 points (6-of-12 FGs), three rebounds, two assists and six three-pointers against the Knicks in Game 4 on Monday.
Analysis: White was the only consistent scorer for Boston outside of Jayson Tatum. The 30-year-old point guard got all of his points on six three-pointers and five free throws. Unfortunately for the Celtics it wasn't enough as Boston was trailing when Tatum went down with a lower leg injury in the final minutes, essentially taking a comeback off the table. The Celtics will look to stave off elimination with their backs against the wall at home in Game 5 on Wednesday.
Jayson Tatum
Jayson Tatum has 42 points before injury in Game 4
Mon, May 12, 2025, 4:21 PM
Jayson Tatum had 42 points (16-of-28 FGs), eight rebounds, four assists, four steals, two blocks and seven three-pointers against the Knicks in Game 4 on Monday.
Analysis: Tatum was playing a whale of a game before going down with what appeared to be a non-contact lower body injury in the final minutes. The 27-year-old small forward had given the Celtics everything they needed up to that point as he kept them in the game with his fifth career 40-point playoff performance. While specifics have yet to come out about Tatum's injury, Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla told reporters that he'll undergo an MRI on Tuesday. It's safe to say it was a significant injury given Tatum's anxious reaction and that he was carried off the floor by trainers before taking a wheelchair to the locker room. The Celtics are now down 3-1 in the series and with Tatum unlikely to make it back before a possible Game 7, a potential comeback has become that much more difficult.
Sam Hauser
Sam Hauser (ankle) out for Game 4 Monday vs. NYK
Mon, May 12, 2025, 12:28 PM
Sam Hauser (ankle) is out for Game 4 against the Knicks on Monday.
Analysis: While Hauser was listed as questionable for Game 4 with an ankle injury, he hasn't seen any game action since leaving early in Game 1 of the series. Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla turned to Payton Pritchard for a series-high 35 minutes off the bench in Game 3 as the Celtics got back in the series with a 22-point victory. It wouldn't be a surprise to see that recipe for success replicated in Game 4.

Sam Hauser (ankle) questionable for Game 4 Monday

Jay King
Sam Hauser (ankle) is questionable to play in Game 4 against the Knicks on Monday.
Analysis: After missing Games 2 and 3, Hauser is in danger of missing Game 4 as well. He exited early from Game 1, and head coach Joe Mazzulla relied on Payton Pritchard to take on even more minutes off the bench instead of turning to another reserve to fill Hauser's minutes. That will likely remain true if Hauser misses Game 4.
Jaylen Brown
Jaylen Brown has 19/6/5 line as Celtics win Game 3
Sat, May 10, 2025, 12:10 PM
Jaylen Brown had 19 points (7-of-18 FGs), six rebounds, five assists, one steal, one block and two three-pointers in Game 3 against the Knicks on Saturday.
Analysis: Brown didn't have his best game with 19 points on 18 shots, but in a game where the Celtics needed his scoring they'll take that even if he got there on volume rather than efficiency. The 28-year-old small forward appears to be playing at less than 100 percent after dealing with a knee issue down the stretch of the regular season. While the Celtics were able to blowout the Knicks by 22 in Game 3, we still haven't seen them win a close game late against New York. Boston will need all hands on deck including Brown if they find themselves in a dogfight against the Knicks in Game 4 Monday.
