Al Horford
Stevens considers Al Horford's return “unlikely”
Tue, Jul 8, 2025, 6:08 AM
Bobby Manning
Brad Stevens told reporters Al Horford's return is “unlikely.”
Analysis: Stevens appears to be pointing out the obvious. While Stevens confirmed the Celtics have made an offer to the 39-year-old power forward, it's no secret that Horford is said to have a robust free agent market and the Celtics remain clouded by uncertainty given Jayson Tatum's injury. At his age, Horford is more likely to ring-chase somewhere with a better chance of winning the title next year.
Josh Minott
Shams: Celtics, Josh Minott agree on two-year deal
Tue, Jul 1, 2025, 9:35 AM
Shams Charania
ESPN's Shams Charania reports Josh Minott has agreed to a two-year, $5 million deal with the Celtics.
Analysis: Minott had his team option declined by the Timberwolves only days ago. A second-round pick in 2022, the 22-year-old power forward averaged just 6.0 minutes per game for the Timberwolves last year. While he struggled to carve out a legitimate role last year, he showed flashes when he was afforded minutes. Minott could have a better chance to establish himself in Boston with the Celtics losing a good amount players in free agency and superstar Jayson Tatum likely to miss the entire regular season.
Luka Garza
Shams: Celtics sign Luka Garza to one-year deal
Mon, Jun 30, 2025, 2:10 PM
Shams Charania
ESPN's Shams Charania reports the Celtics signed PF/C Luka Garza to a one-year, $5.5 million deal.
Analysis: After three seasons with the Timberwolves, Garza is headed to the Eastern Conference and will do so on a fully guaranteed contract. In 39 games last season, the 6-foot-10 center averaged 3.5 points and 1.4 rebounds in 5.6 minutes. While he did not have much of a role in Minnesota, that may change for Garza in Boston. The Celtics lost Kristaps Porzingis (Atlanta) via trade, Luke Kornet (San Antonio) in free agency and Al Horford could also leave as a free agent. Garza should not be on draft radars, but that could change if the Celtics move one of their remaining stars this offseason.
Al Horford
Shams: Horford has ‘robust free agent market'
Wed, Jun 25, 2025, 8:41 AM
Shams Charania
ESPN's Shams Charania reports Al Horford has a “pretty robust free agent market outside of Boston.”
Analysis: Charania's report indicated there is a lot of “uncertainty” in Boston with Jayson Tatum (Achilles) set to miss at least most of next season. The 39-year-old Horford could opt to sign elsewhere to try and win another ring, since the Celtics may not be able to put together a strong enough team to make that happen this season. Horford would play a significant role if he remains in Boston now that Kristaps Porzingis is in Atlanta. If he chooses to leave, multiple contenders should have plenty of interest.
Georges Niang
Georges Niang sent to Boston in Porzingis deal
Tue, Jun 24, 2025, 1:19 PM
Shams Charania
Georges Niang has been traded to the Celtics as part of the deal that sent Kristaps Porzingis to the Hawks.
Analysis: Niang was traded to Atlanta at the trade deadline last season and immediately provided a veteran presence in the rotation. He had some big nights from beyond the arc, and with Jayson Tatum (Achilles) set to miss at least most of next season, Niang could be part of the rotation in Boston. However, this was simply a move for the Celtics to avoid the second apron.
Jrue Holiday
Blazers acquire Jrue Holiday from Celtics
Mon, Jun 23, 2025, 5:46 PM
Shams Charania
ESPN's Shams Charania reports the Trail Blazers have acquired Jrue Holiday in exchange for Anfernee Simons and two second-round picks.
Analysis: One year after winning a championship and signing a contract extension, Holiday is on his way out of Boston. The 35-year-old point guard was traded back to the Trail Blazers in a move that saves Boston enough cap space to potentially get under the second apron. Holiday averaged 11.1 points per game, 4.3 rebounds per game and 3.9 assists per game last year. He was ranked 107th in per game value by Basketball Monster. The Trail Blazers were aggressive in re-acquiring Holiday, who should have a major role with the team next year.
Jaylen Brown
Jaylen Brown (knee) undergoes surgery
Wed, Jun 11, 2025, 7:46 AM
Shams Charania
ESPN's Shams Charania reports that Jaylen Brown underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee but should be ready for the start of the 2025-26 season.
Analysis: Brown finished the season with a partial tear in his right meniscus, and after much consultation, he'll undergo surgery. With Jayson Tatum (Achilles) set to miss an extended part of the upcoming campaign, Brown's availability carries some extra weight.
Sam Hauser
Report: Sam Hauser a potential trade candidate
Fri, Jun 6, 2025, 2:57 PM
NBC Sports Boston
NBC Sports Boston's Chris Mannix said recently that Sam Hauser could be a trade candidate this offseason if the Celtics decide to shed salary.
Analysis: The cost of contending for championships has gotten steeper, especially with the salary cap rules instituted in recent years. For the Celtics, the Achilles tendon rupture suffered by Jayson Tatum may impact how the front office approaches this offseason. If the team decides that a group that won't have Tatum for most of the season can't be a factor in the East, the decision could be made to shed salary. And Hauser, whose four-year, $45 million extension goes into effect next season, may be a prime candidate to be moved. “Hauser, to me, is the most likely candidate to go, just because you have (Baylor) Scheierman there to effectively fill his role,” Mannix said. “I think they'd love to find a home for Jrue Holiday, just because of the contract and where they are as a team. (Kristaps) Porzingis, who knows? I don't think they want to take on contracts that go on longer than Porzingis' deal, but he's certainly available.” Hauser being traded would make Scheierman worth a look in deep fantasy leagues next season.
Jaylen Brown
Jaylen Brown (knee) still evaluating options
Sun, May 25, 2025, 10:09 AM
Celtics Blog
Jaylen Brown (knee) said Saturday that he's still deciding whether or not to undergo surgery on his right knee.
Analysis: While in Boston for the release of his signature sneaker, Brown said that he still has not decided on surgery to repair the partially torn meniscus in his right knee. “l got a lot of doctors I gotta get evaluated with ??" see the potential for surgery versus no surgery, wait to speak to the [Celtics] organization,” Brown said, according to Celtics Blog. “For now, it's just rest and recovery. I'm taking a step back from a long season. Mentally, it was a lot of stuff going on.” With Jayson Tatum (Achilles) expected to miss a significant portion of the 2025-26 season, a healthy Brown would be Boston's first scoring option if management keeps the roster intact.
Jaylen Brown
Shelburne: Jaylen Brown has partial meniscus tear
Sat, May 17, 2025, 12:17 PM
Ramona Shelburne
According to ESPN's Ramona Shelburne, Jaylen Brown finished the season with a partially torn right meniscus.
Analysis: This isn't exactly a revelation to those who closely followed Brown throughout the season. It was obvious the 28-year-old small forward was playing through some knee pain for the last month of the regular season and playoffs. The Celtics star had received multiple injections in his knee to deal with the pain. Brown will be evaluated in the coming week to determine if surgery is needed. Depending on the course of action on Brown's knee, the Celtics could be down another star with Jayson Tatum already having had surgery to repair a torn Achilles.
Jrue Holiday
Jrue Holiday scores four points in blowout loss
Fri, May 16, 2025, 5:27 PM
Jrue Holiday finished Friday's Game 6 loss to the Knicks with four points (1-of-8 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), four rebounds, three assists and one steal in 30 minutes.
Analysis: Between the hamstring injury that sidelined him for the final three games of the first round and his inconsistent production when available, this was a disappointing postseason for Holiday. Friday's performance was his worst, with the veteran guard shooting 12.5 percent from the field. Unfortunately, Holiday's 2024-25 season was underwhelming regarding fantasy value, as he finished outside the top-100 for the first time since his rookie season (2009-10). Holiday's fantasy prospects next season will be impacted by Jayson Tatum (Achilles) likely missing a significant amount of time, but that may also mean an expanded role for Payton Pritchard. Pritchard finished Friday's loss with 11 points, two rebounds, four assists and one three-pointer in 28 minutes.
Derrick White
Derrick White limited to eight points in loss
Fri, May 16, 2025, 5:23 PM
Derrick White amassed eight points (3-of-11 FGs), one rebound, two assists, one steal and two three-pointers in 30 minutes in Friday's Game 6 loss to the Knicks.
Analysis: After going off for 34 points in a valiant Game 5 performance on Wednesday, White could not find his groove on Friday. He shot 2-of-8 from beyond the arc and provided limited value as a playmaker in Boston's season finale. After a surprisingly elite fantasy season in the Celtics' run to the championship last season, White was a top-50 player in 2024-25. That aligned with his Yahoo! ADP (48), which may be a bit higher next season due to Jayson Tatum's ruptured Achilles tendon.
Kristaps Porzingis
Kristaps Porzingis (illness) limited to 11 minutes
Fri, May 16, 2025, 5:18 PM
Michael Scotto
Kristaps Porzingis (illness) tallied four points (1-of-4 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), five rebounds, one block and one three-pointer in 11 minutes in Friday's Game 6 loss to the Knicks.
Analysis: After being unable to play during the second half of Game 5 due to having trouble breathing, Porzingis was used in a reserve role in Game 6. The Celtics forward/center could not provide much value in that role, and replacement Luke Kornet (5/5/1/0/1 in 21 minutes) also struggled on Friday. Most important for Porzingis this offseason is to address the illness that impacted him throughout the postseason. A healthy Porzingis can be an excellent fantasy asset, especially with Jayson Tatum (Achilles) likely missing most of the 2025-26 season.
Al Horford
Al Horford scores 10 points in season finale
Fri, May 16, 2025, 5:16 PM
Al Horford shot 4-of-7 from the field in Friday's Game 6 loss to the Knicks, scoring 10 points with two rebounds and two three-pointers in 27 minutes.
Analysis: While Horford shot the ball reasonably well in Game 6, the veteran center's impact was muted as Boston lost by 38 points. Horford reached double figures in three of the series' final four games, providing increased value with Kristaps Porzingis battling an unspecified illness. However, it wasn't enough to give Boston a shot at winning the series, especially after losing Jayson Tatum to a ruptured Achilles tendon. Horford, who failed to crack the top-100 in fantasy value, will be a free agent this summer. How the front office views the roster after Tatum's injury will be one of the major offseason storylines in the NBA.
Jaylen Brown
Jaylen Brown fouls out of Game 6 blowout defeat
Fri, May 16, 2025, 5:05 PM
Jaylen Brown finished Friday's Game 6 loss to the Knicks with 20 points (8-of-20 FGs, 1-of-2 FTs), six rebounds, six assists, one steal, one block and three three-pointers in 32 minutes.
Analysis: As good as Brown was in Game 5, he could not drum up a similar performance in Friday's series finale. He committed seven turnovers, and with Jayson Tatum (Achilles) out, the Celtics could not afford to sit Brown despite his foul trouble. As a result, he was disqualified with about three minutes remaining in the third quarter. From a fantasy standpoint, Brown's 2024-25 production did not align with his Yahoo! ADP (40), as he was only a top-75 player in eight-cat formats. Depending on what the Celtics' front office does this offseason, with Tatum likely to miss most of the 2025-26 season, Brown's ADP will likely be inflated next fall.
Luke Kornet
BOS starting Jrue, White, Brown, Horford, Kornet
Fri, May 16, 2025, 1:46 PM
Boston Celtics
Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Al Horford and Luke Kornet will start Game 6 on Friday against the Knicks.
Analysis: Kornet will start Game 6 after being one of the difference-makers in Boston's Game 5 blowout victory on Wednesday. He replaces Kristaps Porzingis, who continues to struggle with his fitness after dealing with an illness that first became an issue late in the regular season. How much Porzingis can play is unknown, but the Celtics will need another Herculean effort from Kornet to extend the series to a decisive Game 7 on Monday.
Jaylen Brown
Jaylen Brown tallies 26/8/12 line in Game 5 win
Wed, May 14, 2025, 4:01 PM
Jaylen Brown turned in a strong line on Wednesday with 26 points (9-of-17 FGs, 5-of-8 FTs), eight rebounds, 12 assists, one steal and three three-pointers in Game 5 against the Knicks.
Analysis: Brown is the other All-NBA player on the roster, and with Jayson Tatum (Achilles) done for the season, Boston needed to turn to Brown. He took advantage and was fantastic as both a scorer and a facilitator. Tatum had been Boston's leader in assists in both the regular season and the playoffs, which is an underrated aspect of his game that the Celtics will miss. If Brown continues to dominate on offense like he did in this game Boston, will have a legitimate chance to win this series, even without Tatum.
Luke Kornet
Luke Kornet starts second half, swats seven shots
Wed, May 14, 2025, 3:56 PM
Noa Dalzell
Luke Kornet started the second half on Wednesday and contributed 10 points (5-of-5 FGs), nine rebounds, one assist, one steal and seven blocks in Game 5 against the Knicks.
Analysis: Kristaps Porzingis got the starting nod in place of Jayson Tatum (Achilles), but Kornet replaced him to start the second half. Porzingis didn't end up seeing the floor after the break, while Kornet played a significant role in helping Boston take over the game. Porzingis has struggled mightily during this series, and there were reports that he is having stamina issues. After the game, head coach Joe Mazzulla was asked about benching Porzingis and said, “He couldn't breathe. He was available if absolutely necessary.” Porzingis only had one point, one rebound and one block in 12 minutes on Wednesday. It's unclear if Kornet will start in Game 6 on Friday, but he has clearly at least earned more playing time.
Derrick White
Derrick White drops 34, Celtics take Game 5
Wed, May 14, 2025, 3:50 PM
Derrick White led the Celtics with 34 points (9-of-16 FGs, 9-of-11 FTs), three rebounds, two assists, three blocks and seven three-pointers in a 127-102 win over the Knicks in Game 5 on Wednesday.
Analysis: In the wake of Jayson Tatum's Achilles tear, Boston needed someone to step up on the offensive end. White filled the void with his highest-scoring performance of the postseason and his most points in a game since early March. White struggled in the first two games of this series but has made at least 50 percent of his shots in each of his last three games. He has been able to fill whatever role the Celtics have needed him to fill since he was traded to Boston, and he should continue to be a primary scoring option for them as they head to New York for Game 6.
Kristaps Porzingis
BOS starting White, Holiday, Brown, Horford, KP
Wed, May 14, 2025, 1:02 PM
Brian Robb
Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, Jaylen Brown, Al Horford and Kristaps Porzingis will start against the Knicks in Game 5 on Wednesday.
Analysis: In Boston's first game without Jayson Tatum (Achilles), Porzingis will make a return to the starting unit in a bigger lineup for the Celtics. Payton Pritchard, Sam Hauser and Luke Kornet should fill out the reserve minutes.
